About the College and the Department

A national leader in engineering education, the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering was founded in 1995 and quickly gained national recognition for its innovative multidisciplinary, project-based approach to engineering education.  In 2013, the State of New Jersey designated Rowan University a comprehensive research university, and in 2017 our university was recognized as a Carnegie-classified research institution. During that period, Rowan Engineering doubled both its full-time faculty and student population and started the engineering PhD programs.  In 2017, we opened the doors of Engineering Hall and completed a full renovation of our original home, Rowan Hall. These projects tripled our available space and provided the College with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities.  We currently have 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in six departments and are home to four research centers.

ExEEd was launched as a new Department in 2016 to cultivate a collaborative environment for engineering education research, implement educational innovations in the classroom, and lead the College’s undergraduate engineering educational mission in the first and second years.  ExEEd is responsible for the College’s signature First-year and Sophomore Engineering Clinics and oversees the B.S. in Engineering Entrepreneurship, a novel undergraduate degree program that blends engineering with business skills.  At the graduate level, the department is currently focusing on expanding its engineering education PhD program while maintaining our strong tradition of innovative undergraduate education.
